This is Bart, station fixture and mascot. Bart is an Anatolian Shepherd. For the most part that’s good. However they can be a little bit stubborn. (He doesn’t like to give up his “throne” chair especially if he thinks someone else might want to use it.)
Bart was adopted from a rescue shelter about 5 years ago. He’s been a part of the station from the beginning. We’ve been asked many times about the dog noises heard occasionally in the background during programs. Yes, they are real. And now you can see the responsible dog.
Some of Bart’s favorite activities are going for long walks and chasing a laser pointer dot. He gets along well when he meets other dogs (and cats and rabbits). He’s a great companion and looks forward to meeting people as they come to the station. Many of the volunteers will bring a treat or two along.
He was quite the escape artist as a pup and could slide out of a collar without any problem. As you can see he now has a harness which he is quite possessive about. We also get asked a lot about the harness design, etc. It’s called woofstock and is made by Lupine Pet Products. They have a replacement warranty that covers their products “even if chewed,” Bart has and they did.
I should also mention that Anatolian Shepherds shed a lot. That makes them a very clean dog, but it also means a vacuum cleaner bag full of dog fur every few weeks.
